To the Occidental community,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Occidental community for a great 19 years as Registrar of Occidental. I am retiring from my position here at the college. I have had the opportunity to serve many students, faculty and staff while employed at Occidental and I have also had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented staff and faculty throughout my tenure.
The past few years have been interesting ones for me. I have witnessed the occupation of the AGC building (formerly named after Arthur G. Coons — a great past Occidental president), multiple protests and the destruction of memorials on our great American campus. Occidental College has a lot to offer its students both in and outside the classroom. We can learn to be outspoken but tolerant of others’ views and opinions. We can learn to listen to each other and accept different viewpoints and learn to understand why we all have diverse opinions and views. That is one of the reasons we are at such a great college. America gives each one of us the opportunity and freedom to learn whatever we want and to debate whatever we want as a free society.
I have been proud to be part of the Occidental community in the past and also proud to be able to say without reservation (now that I am retiring) that I am also proud to be an American. God bless the United States of America and God bless Occidental College.
Thank you for giving me 19 great years!
